Bonding over fruits

With every bite, my daughter made a friend. And life became healthy and happy for her

It was the summer of 2013. From a small town in North Bengal, Malda, we shifted our base to Delhi. It was a sea change in the life and lifestyle that we have been accustomed to. The greatest issue, though, was the language. Before coming to the city we had hardly ever spoken in Hindi.

My husband in office and I in the neighbourhood had still been managing. But my 12-year-old daughter had the greatest problem. At her school, she couldn’t express herself properly, or make friends. As a result, she was mocked at and made fun of.

Without friends and fun, she was almost going to about of depression. Right then our package of mangoes arrived from our town. Malda, is internationally known for its produce of mangoes. And our orchard had some of the best varieties. This gave me an idea.

The next day, I proposed a mango feast for her friends. Her class teacher lapped up the idea. I accompanied her to the school with the stock. There, she cut the fruits herself and served them to her friends. As expected, the idea became an instant hit. The fruits were delicious and healthy, causing happiness for all, from students to teachers. With every bite, my daughter made a friend. And life became healthy and happy for her!
